Millie’s Night Out

Millie escaped! ∑(O_O;)Shock!!

It was just a normal night. Millie wanted to come out so GM put her in her ball and left her to roam – he was playing Streetfighter IV on the PS3 and I was watching Japanese dorama on my laptop. We did our own things separately for quite a while, around 20 minutes or so.

THEN. GM went to check on Millie. And he shouted from the bedroom, “OH MY GOD, MILLIE’S OUT!”

My heart nearly stopped. I ran into the bedroom and there her ball was, sitting next to GM’s side of the bed (Millie’s favoured side) empty and lidless. No Millie because the lid which had been loose for a while had finally come off and she’d seen her chance and escaped! Although “escape” probably isn’t the right word to use here, it’s more like she found freedom.

Honestly, I thought it would be futile trying to look for her, I almost gave it up as a lost cause; there’s so much clutter all over the place and so many thousands and billions of places she could hide in or have fallen into that we might overlook. Short of tearing the place apart, it’d have been impossible to find her. Especially since she doesn’t ever come running even if we call her name.

Anyway GM tried. He cordoned off the hallway and bedroom, concentrating his search to those areas since the bedroom was obviously where she’d managed to get out of her ball. I couldn’t even begin to contemplate which area of the room she might be in and was actually feeling kind of sick to my stomach that she might have tried chewing through an electric cable and electrocuted herself.

So I took the easy option and went outside to the living room and looked under the easiest place, the couch. Nope. No Millie. I felt sick. Without much hope, I looked next to the couch in between the lamp and my pile of work bags. And I saw a little golden brown furry ball.

ヽ(゚▽゚*)乂(*゚▽゚)ノ Thank God! ♪

So luckily even though we lost Millie for a while, we found her again. I’m sure she had a load of fun when she was out and we’ve got her back safe and sound so it’s win-win I suppose.

I like good endings…… thank God this was one ( ; – _ –) =3

The Other Side of Me

Millie doesn’t really make any noises at all.   Except when she’s in her house sleeping and we call her, sometimes then she’ll make an “ook ook” noise to tell us she heard us, or maybe to tell us to shut up?  Haha.  And then she’ll stick her little nose out to have a sniff to check if it’s really us.

So given that she hardly ever make any noises how do we know when she wants something?

Let’s Make It A Good Year

Hi everybody.  Happy New Year!  May 2010 be a fantastic year for all of us.

I have quite a lot I want to achieve in this year ahead, so much so that it feels a bit daunting.  I like to procrastinate so much that I even want to put off thinking about it but on the other hand, I know that if I don’t at least tell myself that I have to do all this stuff it’ll definitely never get done.

The main thing for this year that I want to achieve is to be in a new house by Christmas 2010.  I really hope it happens.  At the moment it seems a very far off dream, not so much in terms of finances but more in terms of the physical tasks such as packing up our existing place, putting it on the market, looking for a house that fulfils all our requirements and actually moving in and making it habitable.  Just the thought stresses me out but you know, gazillions of people have moved residences before, so why can’t GM and I?  Right?

Career-wise, I think I’m already doing quite a lot towards moving it in the direction I want it to go so there’s not that much I need to change except be even more proactive and dynamic.  Whether or not my efforts lead anywhere is, I think, really up to the higher-ups and the stars to decide so for me, as long as I know I’ve done something about it I can rest easy.

As always, I’d like to continue to improve myself this year.  For starters, I hope to become much more confident.  I want to stop being so self-conscious, stop doubting myself and start having a much thicker skin.  I meet so many idiots almost everyday who talk loudly and at length and have no qualms about showing off their ignorance to the world around them.  Nothing bad happens to them when they’ve shamelessly baffled everyone else with their nonsense, so why should I hold myself back when I know I won’t even be able to come close to their level of dumbassness?  Well, it’s easier said than done but I’m going to try hard not to beat myself up so much over little things and to allow myself to look less than perfect every once in a while.

One of my resolutions last year was “be kinder to people”.  Well, I’ve realised this year that I’m actually really very kind to people.  My problem isn’t that I’m not kind, in fact I think I’m too soft.  Where I go really wrong is my hot-headedness.  So, that I must change.  I’m going to try not to fly off the handle at the mere whiff of a spark like some kind of gas filled tank.  I definitely have to learn to be more calm, think things over before I speak, or when I’ve first woken up try not to speak for the first half hour to minimise the chances of my irritability flaring up.  Now if I can do that I think I’ll be a lot easier to live with and won’t have any cause to look back and regret things I shouldn’t have said nor done in the heat of the moment.

Apart from the heavy stuff, this year I hope I continue to learn lots of Japanese and also hopefully learn a new musical instrument.

And as with every year before this one, I’d like to lose some weight.  Or at least just go back to a size 8.  Or at least just lose my hips and tummy and get my waist back.  My new dieting slogan for 2010 is “Less hip, more waist”!

But over and above all of this, I hope this year is smooth sailing, peaceful and successful for me, my family and friends.  As long as we all continue to be healthy, happy and comfortable finances-wise I think life is really already good enough.

Fun, Food and Fantastic Gifts

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me~

It was my birthday a couple of days ago and I had a lovely time.

When I got up Millie was out to greet me! :)

Actually she was out looking for stuff to make her bed with and also stuffing her cheeks with some food to bring to bed with her so that she’d have something to nibble on if she woke  up peckish in the middle of her sleep.  Look at her with a bit of white fluff stuck on her head.  So blur and so cute :)  It really makes my day if I get to see her out first thing in the morning :)

We were supposed to go out for a lavish afternoon tea but I decided that I’d prefer a nice relaxing day at home instead :)

GM made me a latte using our new coffee machine that his aunt bought us for Christmas!  Lovely.

Just the right beverage to have with my birthday cake which we went to buy together the day before.

Strawberry shortcake.

Midway through the day GM went to collect my parcel from Jo and Di for me.  It was huge!!  And filled with lots of goodies and cute things :)  Thanks girls!!!

And thank you to GM too for dashing out in the rain to retrieve my parcel even though the postman hadn’t left us a delivery card as he was meant to.  I was really surprised that GM managed to get my parcel actually, I’d kind of half given up hope because over here they always lose things and without even a parcel delivery number it wasn’t looking very likely that they’d be able to track it down.  But GM persevered anyway and the lovely parcel was with me just in time for my birthday :)  Yay!

Birthday snacks for me from GM :)

This was my Christmas plus birthday present from GM – a KitchenAid mixer, cookbook and food grinder attachment! :)

I’ve always wanted a KitchenAid mixer and now I have one……. isn’t it beautiful?

GM got me the 90th anniversary limited edition colour – candy apple red.  I love it!

GM got a pocket video camera from me.  He picked this out himself – I’m no good at buying gadgets for him since he’s quite particular hehe.

I also got him these!  Robot print egg cups with an egg timer (behind the egg cups).  He likes to have boiled eggs for breakfast sometimes but they have to have runny yolks so that he can dip his toast soldiers in – the egg timer should come in handy for this.

Of course Millie had to have a Christmas present too, right?  We wrapped it up in tissue hehe.

There she is, opening her pressie.

In case you’re wondering, it’s a carrot garden treat with freshly baked edible bowl.  She really likes it :)

We had partridge and pheasant for Christmas lunch.  This was the partridge with roast vegetables – parsnips, carrots, onions and potatoes.   GM and I have decided we’re definitely not keen on gamey meats.  As in, that partridge tasted like how Millie smells.  It was a bit gross since it was almost like eating Millie but luckily she’s not a bird so it wasn’t so bad.  So yah, never again.  Next year I’m just going to do spring chicken.  We had spring chicken a couple of days before Christmas and it was really tasty.

We definitely preferred our smoked salmon blinis instead.

We had Christmas dinner round GM’s parents’ place with the family.  We had the traditional turkey!  That was a big bird.

And what’s Christmas dinner without brussel sprouts, eh?

So another Christmas over, another birthday celebrated and a whole long year before the next!  Time flies by so quick when we’re having fun……..
